60 Year Old Oxford Police Badge Found
Oxford Historian Finds Superintendent Badge on eBay
At the April 25th meeting of the Oxford Historical Society (OHS), Town and Village Historian, Charlotte Stafford showed her latest purchase for the Society. It is a 60 year old Superintendent of Police badge, discovered on eBay, from Fairfield, PA. It is quite an interesting find especially since the rank of Superintendent is on the Federal level.
Oxford always had a local constable. In the early 40s the Oxford Village Constable was the late Leonard Tefft. However, he was replaced just prior to being drafted into World War II. Research will have to be done to find out who wore the badge of Superintendent of Police.
Charlotte Stafford has been devoting much of her time to finding and returning items that belonged or were significant to Oxford once and getting them back to Oxford. By using eBay shes been able to amass quite a number of wonderful finds for the Oxford Museum. This collection of memorabilia includes a spectacular engraved watch sold by an Oxford jeweler prior to WWI, shown at the December 2005 meeting. All these great finds will be featured in a special display at the Oxford Historical Societys Depot-Museum, at 1 Depot Street, this summer.

For further OHS information on this upcoming exhibit, watch the Oxford events calendar at www.OxfordNY.com ("http://www.oxfordny.com/forum/../") or call the Oxford Historical Society: (607) 843-9446. The Depot-Museum is open Thursdays from 1-3 PM.
