"Hats off" to Bainbridge Chamber of Commerce for great plans for Bainbridge.
Helen B. Hernandez, president of the Bainbridge Chamber of Commerce has been in the news lately due to events and plans to improve Bainbridge and the Chamber's ability to implement them.
On Monday, April 25th, the Bainbridge Chamber of Commerce conveyed General Clinton Park to the Town of Bainbridge. They had owned the 41-acre park (recently valued at $270,000.) since 1972. The Town Supervisor, Hugh A. Kearney (R-Bainbridge), plans to continue keeping the park functioning as a fundraising opportunity for the town. The Chamber will continue to sponsor the 43-year-old Canoe Regatta, but they will be freed up now to pursue other endeavors.
FYI: Annual Events Held in General Clinton Park:
Canoe Regatta, May 27th - 31st, 2005
(Known as the largest tourist attraction in Chenango County.)
American Kennel Club Dog Show, June 24 - 28th, 2005
Family Motor Coach Assoc. reunion, Labor Day weekend.
What Are Future Plans?
The Bainbridge Chamber of Commerce plans to help local agricultural businesses, specialty shops and producers promote their products and services. They plan to show local agri-businesses ideas, through local workshops, for continued land use by producing alternate crops as advised by the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chenango County.
Infrastructure Improvements: Funds are being raised to install water and sewer lines across the Susquehanna River. This will occur at the same time as the State DOT's Route 206 bridge rehabilitation project planned to begin this month. An industrial center is planned for the future on the other side of the river. The DOT plans to refurbish the intersection of state Routes 206 & 7. That will include resurfacing roads in the village, replacing water and sewer lines, building new sidewalks and adding new trees, lamps and light posts. There will be a circular walkway around General Clinton Park. In addition, the town recently applied for a $400,000. HUD grant to upgrade lower income homes in the town.
