Chenango County Dairy Farmers welcomed a new representative Friday evening, with the crowning of 2006-2007 Chenango County Dairy Princess Victoria Lints of Oxford. Tori was selected to lead the dairy promotion court at the 43rd annual Chenango County Dairy Promotion Banquet, held May 19th, at the Norwich Grange Hall

In her dairy promotion speech, Tori spoke about the newly designed food guide pyramid, which now recommends that everyone have at least three (3) servings of dairy everyday. She also shared information on scientific research that shows dairy products, when used as part of a reduced calorie diet, can be effective in weight loss. When asked why she is interested in being Dairy Princess, Tori states “I feel that the dairy industry is something that is too often overlooked…I will take great pride in representing the dairy industry…and will enjoy learning and teaching all there is to know about the industry”.

Tori is the daughter of Kelly Howe, Oxford, and is active on the family farm, including showing dairy animals in 4-H at the County Fair. Tori is an honor student at Oxford Academy and Central School, where she plays field hockey and basketball.

In addition to Tori, four (4) other young ladies will serve as 2006-2007 Chenango County Dairy Ambassadors: Hannah Ives, Guilford, daughter of Terry and Julie Ives. Jessica Jaramillo, Bainbridge, daughter of Melba Arango. Sarah Robinson, South Otselic, daughter of Oscar and Betty Robinson. Kaitlyn Stoltman, Georgetown, daughter of Mark and Heather Stoltman.

During the coming year, the dairy promotion court will work to promote the dairy industry by spreading the 3-A-Day of Dairy message, encouraging everyone to be sure they have at least 3 servings of dairy, especially milk, cheese and yogurt, everyday.

Friday’s banquet also signaled the end of 2005-2006 Dairy Princess Heather Lathrop’s, Sherburne, reign. During her farewell speech, Heather thanked the many people who have supported and encourage her during the past year, including her family. Heather also reviewed some of the highlights from her reign, specifically her most memorable experiences working with school aged children and hearing the feedback from them and their teachers about what they had learned about good dairy nutrition. Heather and her court worked hard to complete numerous promotions throughout the year, earning them the highest incentive level award given by the American Dairy Association and Dairy Council (ADADC), including title of March 2006 Promoters of the Month. Heather’s court members that also completed their reigns on Friday included Patty Dalglish, Oxford; KatieLyn Gardiner, Otselic; Joyful Gardiner, Otselic and Mindy Kuhn, Oxford. Robinson also served in 2005-2006, but will remain on the court this year.

New York State Dairy Princess Caitlin Rohe, Syracuse, was on hand to welcome the new court and provide a brief update on ADADC dairy promotion efforts, all of which are funded by dairy farmer check-off dollars.
