57th Annual Pageant of Bands
The Oxford Academy Concert Band & Marching Band students, grades 7-12, were off by bus this (Saturday, June 3rd) morning from the High School by 8 AM, on their way to Sherburne.
This is the third and final day of the annual Sherburne Pageant of Bands. Jazz Band competed Thursday and Friday; and Colorguard was on Friday.
Students today will be competing with 32 other bands from all over New York state and even some out-of-state.
Their schedule is as follows:
The middle school concert band will perform in the Sherburne Auditorium at 10:20 AM.
The high school concert band will perform in the Sherburne Band Room at 11:20 AM.
After both concerts, the kids will have lunch and prepare for the parade.
The marching band steps off for the parade at 1:00 PM.
Immediately after the parade the drumline will compete at the Football Stadium.*
The buses will return to the high school at 6:00 PM. *NEW THIS YEAR: There will be an ALL-STAR band made up of nominations from each band participating. They will be playing field arrangements of "Battle Hymn of the Republic" and "House of the Rising Sun" (after the parade), after the percussion competition in the Football Stadium, just before the Pageant Award Ceremony.
In the June 1st, Evening Sun, Oxford Academy was listed under CLASS A.
They wrote:
"The Blackhawks of Oxford Academy will make their 54th appearance at Sherburne this weekend. Their history at the pageant extends back to the very first pageant and they have attended every pageant since 1955. Oxford has been one of the most successful bands in the pageant, winning the Best of Class Award in their division in 1995, 96, 97, 98, 2000, 2001, 2003 and 2004. In fact, Oxford was the winner of the Frank L. Miller Director's Award and the Albert Whitney Overall Achievement Award in 2001.
Last year ['05] Oxford took home first place in color guard, second in concert band and jazz, third in parade and percussion line and fifth in the junior concert band contest. This year Oxford will enter the color guard, parade, percussion line, jazz and concert band competitions as well as the junior jazz and concert band contests."
GOOD LUCK BLACKHAWKS!!!!
