Musicians: Rehearsals Begin 6/29, 7:30 pm
Oxford Community Band Rehearsals Begin
Attention Musicians! The first of three rehearsals for the Oxford Community Band will be held Thursday, June 29th, in the Oxford High School Band Room. The Community Band organizes each year at three pre-season rehearsals (6/29; 7/5; & after the first concert on 7/12), all at 7:30 PM.
The Band performs on six Thursday evenings on the parks in Oxford, commencing the first Thursday after the 4th of July. (Thursday concert dates: 7/6; 7/13; 7/20; 7/27; 8/3 & 8/10). The first four July performances, held in LaFayette Park, are at 7:30 PM. The last two concerts in August, one held at Washington Park and the other at the Oxford Historical Societys Depot-Museum, are both at 7:00 PM.
One new concert date has been tentatively added to the 2006 calendar: August 17th, 7 PM, at the NYS Veterans Home. Please check the OxfordNY.com events calendar closer to the concert date or check with Interim Coordinators, Jane & Lew Ford.
The group plays moderate grade marches, show tunes, overtures and novelty selections. Please tell all your musical friends to join this year-- anyone who enjoys music is welcome! Last year, the band was made up of musicians from nine towns. It doesn't matter if you haven't played in ten years, nor does it matter if you can make just one or only a few of the concerts, you're still appreciated. The objective is to have fun making music with friends and to provide listeners with a pleasurable hour of music.
Visiting Oxford Band alumnae are encouraged to make themselves known to the group or bring an instrument and sit in.
There may be additional opportunities for performing, but they'll provide further information once any details are known. There is a small stipend paid for each concert and practice attended, as in past years.
Would you like to help with setting up chairs, music stands and drums? They pick up their equipment at the High School, about half an hour before performance time. If you're available, your help would be appreciated.
Anyone interested in joining the band is welcome to attend the first rehearsal at the High School Band Room or call, just about any time: (home) 843-7602, (work-Lew Ford) 335-1324; or (E-mail) codeguy@stny.rr.com . Jane and Lew Ford, Interim Coordinators. The 2006 conductor will be Jessica Freeman.
