Mansheffer Awarded First Place in NYS Legion Press Award
OXFORD – Pete Mansheffer, editor of the Oxford Review-Times; Chenango American; and Whitney Point Reporter, was honored with a first place award from the New York State American Legion Press Association (NYSALPA). A plaque was presented to Mansheffer and Kenneth S. Paden, publisher (who served during the Vietnam era ), on October 5th, by Albert A. Paviglianti, the vice president of the National American Legion Press Association, and Patricia C. Marso, membership chair of NYSALPA.
The National American Legion Press Association (NALPA), founded in 1923, is an association of editors, writers, business managers, historians, public relations officers and staff personnel who are members of the American Legion, Sons of the American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary and other subsidiary organizations. Each year NALPA presents their “Best Papers” awards to the publications, in each region, that best exemplifies their objectives.
The NYSALPA awards chairman, Robert Allero of Liverpool, NY, who announced the award for “First Place in the Community Newspaper”, stated that he was amazed at the quantity of items about veterans and their families that were found in each issue of the Paden publications.
While accepting the award, Pete and Ken wished to recognize the efforts of Hazel Shields for compiling the articles. The Paden Publishing, LLC group, which is published in Sidney, NY, proved that through their newspapers, they reach area Legion members, keeping them informed of local American Legion events, and helping to make a difference for veterans and their families.
