TNQ Quilt Show & Raffle Reaps Success!
Quilt Show and Raffle Reaps Success!
The Thursday Night Quilters (TNQ) held their biennial Quilt Show and Raffle on Saturday, October 28th, in the United Church of Oxford. The display of quilts, in the relaxed atmosphere of the Fellowship Hall, spanned decades and covered a variety of styles. It was very successful in raising funds for Cilla Davis and meeting new quilters.
The Thursday Night Quilters group members are: Linda Meek, Joyce Tefft, Blanche Tefft, Sharon McGowan, Marian Ireland, Nancy Ryan, and Sharlene Lints. They exhibited their stitched creations along with many others who displayed quilts and shared stories.
There was a “Viewer's Choice Award”, of which they had a tie. The two winners were Gertie Pierce Boyd for her quilt #48 and Joyce Tefft, for her quilt #56. They each received a $35.00 gift certificate to the Sew Nice Quilt shop in Norwich.
Gertie Pierce Boyd, president of the Guilford Historical Society and member of the Grange for over 55 years, had the honor of drawing the winning ticket for the Cilla Davis benefit quilt raffle. Cilla is a woman from Oxford, in need of a double lung transplant. The Quilters group thought it would be a nice way to help out with some of her expenses by making and raffling a quilt. Tom Emerson, of Oxford, was the winner and will receive their “Color by the Yard” handmade quilt, which had been on display in the NBT bank.
A dessert and hot beverage was included in the admission fee. There was a seating area set with pretty quilted table cloths, to relax and enjoy it in the company of other quilters.
The TNQ would like to thank the United Church of Oxford for letting them have the show in the Fellowship Hall and also the Oxford NBT for allowing them to sell raffle tickets and display the quilt at their bank.
Lots of viewers said they had quilts they should have entered. They will definitely be invited to join in October of 2008. In the meanwhile, keep quilting! For information on joining the Thursday Night Quilters group, contact Linda Meek at (607) 843-9416 or Joyce Tefft at (607) 843-8765.
