EGG-cellent Easter Egg Hunt!
Oxford Rotary’s Easter Egg Hunt was EGGcellent!
On Saturday, March 31st the Oxford Rotary Club sponsored its 4th Annual Easter Egg Hunt, which continues to grow bigger and better each year. Due to concerns that the Rotary members had about safety issues, this year’s free Easter egg event took place in the safety of the Oxford Academy Primary School’s playground. The weather was beautiful and families and their youngsters, ready to go with bags or pretty Easter baskets, arrived in droves from Oxford and the surrounding area. The hunt even brought out the Easter Bunny who posed with children for pictures.
In preparation for this event, the Oxford Rotary members filled hundreds of plastic eggs with candy, coins, and a few special prizes. Then, “Easter bunny assistants” like Oxford Rotary president, Gary Ives; Deb Toby and other Rotary members hid the brilliantly colored eggs all over the school playground for the children to find. Eggs were hidden in age appropriate hiding places made possible with snow fencing which helped section off an egg hunt area just for little ones in pre-school. The rest of the playground area worked well for the older children through 4th grade where eggs could be hidden in more ‘challenging spaces’.
Also new this year-- all the egg hunts started at the same time. After hours of work filling the eggs and finding good hiding places for them, these quick little bunnies hopped to it and were just about done finding all the eggs in six minutes!
There was still more fun to be had as all the colored eggs had to be opened to find out who got the three special eggs with winning slips! The winners were O’Rion Slater and Parker Smith (who agreed to share their winnings), Billy Reynolds, and Joshua Titus. They all got beautiful stuffed animals and $5 gift certificates to…Hoppie’s of course!
The Oxford Rotary Club would like to thank everyone who helped make this possible, the Oxford school for their gracious use of the playground, and all the people of Oxford for their continued support of this event and the other activities sponsored by the Oxford Rotary Club.
