Blueox ‘Saves the Day’ for Habitat

NORWICH – Located at 7 Adams Street, around the corner from Roots and Wings, is the third Chenango County Habitat for Humanity (CCHH) house. Progress with the heating system was at an impasse, volunteers had gone as far as they could, and a qualified contractor was needed. Thanks to recent contributions from Blueox, the house is nearly finished.

According to Tim Evans, Blueox HVAC salesman, "Without completion of the heating system by a City of Norwich certified heating contractor, the natural gas hookup by NYSEG was at a standstill. The natural gas meter could not be installed to provide fuel for the home until one of the gas systems was ready to be connected and tested."

Tim approached Blueox about assisting with the project and they agreed to donate their labor to complete the unfinished hot water heating system.

As Dick Sheldon, CCHH volunteer commented, "The cavalry rode in on a Blueox and saved the day with their expert advice and experience."

As word of Blueox’s good deed spread, they even got media attention from Steve Craig at TV NewsChannel 34. The news crew interviewed Blueox’s Tim Evans, Shane Andrews, and got close-up footage of Jim Crandall soldering the baseboard heating pipes. Craig also interviewed CCHH volunteers: Olin Miller from Norwich, who has been helping with this house project since the start doing “what-ever needs to be done”; and Audrey Johnson of Oxford, the fund raising Head Coordinator of the red carnation sales.

During the interview, Audrey explained to Steve the joys of volunteering, “…they get much more out of it sometimes, than the homeowners themselves. It’s the fact that they are helping other people to improve their lives; to have that American dream to have an affordable house.”
The spot aired April 11th, and hopefully inspired more volunteerism.

“Habitat for Humanity offers a hand up, not a handout”. Now that the heating has been accomplished, thanks to Blueox, the rest of the interior (painting and other trim work), and exterior landscaping can proceed with helping hands. Blueox volunteer Tim Evans has additionally offered his time, along with his son Ryan, to paint and sheet rock. Anyone else that’s interested in lending a hand can come and join in on any Saturday, from 9-4, at 7 Adams Street in Norwich.
