Benefit Dinner & Breakfast for John Lobdell
The community is urged to show their support over the weekend of September 8th & 9th, as there will be a two-part benefit event for John Lobdell, who was recently diagnosed with colon cancer. St. Paul’s Episcopal Dinner Committee will be sponsoring a benefit dinner and the Oxford American Legion will be providing a benefit breakfast. In addition to the dinner and breakfast, there will be eight gift baskets for raffle.
St. Paul’s Episcopal Dinner Committee will be sponsoring a benefit dinner on Saturday, September 8th, from 4:30 to 7:30 pm. The dinner will be held at the St. Paul’s Episcopal Parish House, 32 Main St., Oxford. The dinner will be extended from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm.
The menu will be delicious Roast Beef, Garlic Mashed Potatoes (with gravy), Honey Buttered Baby Carrots, Lemon Butter Broccoli, French Salad, Rolls, Beverage, and Chocolate Éclair Dessert. Adults are $6; children 6-12 yrs., $4; and children under 6 free!
The St. Paul’s Episcopal Dinner Committee (Joan Bradley, Charles McMullen, and Bonnie Emerson) are very proud of the outreach these benefit dinners provide to help others. To name a few programs St. Paul’s Episcopal Church benefit dinners have helped, they are: the Oxford Girl Scouts, Chenango United Way, SPCA, Oxford Varsity Wrestling Team, Mark Samson Scholarship Fund, Habitat for Humanity of Chenango County, Transitional Housing of OFC, Relay for Life, and many local causes.
The following day, Sunday, September 9, the Oxford American Legion Post #376, located at 17 South Washington Avenue, will help by providing a benefit breakfast from 7:30 am to 11 am. Their Community Breakfast is an ‘all-you-can-eat’, offering pancakes, sausage, eggs, home fries, French toast, OJ & tea/coffee. All for $5 -adults; senior citizens, $4; children 7-12 yrs., $3; under 6 free!
A little about John Lobdell to share with the public: John was born October 10, 1972, raised in East McDonough, graduated from Oxford Academy and Central High School in 1991, and East Stroudsburg College in 1996. He played football in high school and college. John married Emma Wiley, in 2001. They have two sons, Brody, age 5, and Mason, age 3. John and Emma live in Blue Ridge, Virginia, and operate JBL Landscaping Company in the Roanoke area. The Lobdells enjoy spending time at their camp at Lake Ludlow in McDonough.
John was recently diagnosed with colon cancer. He is undergoing chemotherapy and will have surgery later this year. Friends and family of the Lobdells have been faithfully going to their home in Virginia since the diagnosis, to give their help, love, and support. The overwhelming response has been positive and well received by John and Emma.
To kick off both events there will be eight gift baskets for raffle starting August 15, 2007. Tickets are 13 tickets for $10, 6 tickets for $5, and 1 ticket for $1. There will be a Pottery Basket, created by Bill and Diane Troxell, Golf Basket created by Phyllis Forsythe and Sally Miers, Wine Basket created by Janet Mirabito and Jan Ingraham, Silpada Jewelry Basket created by Kristen Mills, Assorted Basket created by Danielle Williamson, Assorted basket created by Heather Ferrarese, Children’s Activity Basket created by Courtney Emerson, and Sport’s Basket created by Mike Mayhood. Many thanks to all of you for helping out with the creation of the beautiful baskets. Special ‘thank yous’ to Bonnie Emerson, Diane Troxell and Charles McMullen for coordinating the baskets/raffle.
You may purchase your raffle tickets at NBT Oxford, Gallery 3-2-1, Hoppie’s, Bartle’s Pharmacy, and Mayhood’s Sporting Goods. Raffle tickets will be sold at the door, the night of the dinner, Saturday, September 8, and at the Oxford Legion breakfast Sunday, September 9. The raffle drawing will be held after the American Legion breakfast.
Don’t miss this time of fellowship to show your love and support for the Lobdells. That is what small home town spirit is all about!
