SPCA’s 4th Annual Fur Ball

Bring your Valentine’s Day sweetheart and join your friends in a gala evening of light gourmet fare and delicious desserts with a cash bar, live music and dancing as you support the homeless animals at the CCSPCA shelter in Norwich. On Saturday, February 9th, the Canasawacta Country Club will be decked out with hearts and flowers at Chenango County SPCA’s 4th Annual Fur Ball. Everyone is invited to this semi-formal event.
Entertainment will begin at 7:00 p.m. with music by “Splash”. Splash is a seven-member group from Binghamton, all of whom have been active in the region’s music scene for many years. Splash was voted Best Band in the Southern Tier in 1999, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2007 by the Press & Sun Bulletin. The group is skilled at playing music that gets people dancin’ and tappin’ their feet, and is sure to be a big hit at the 4th Annual Fur Ball.
Dining opportunities will include light fare and gourmet desserts prepared by Canasawacta Country Club. A cash bar will be available and Vantine Imaging of Hamilton will again be taking photographs. The 4th Annual Fur Ball is made possible through the generosity of the following corporate sponsors: the former Rea-D Pack Foods, Procter & Gamble Pharmaceuticals, NBT Bank, Visions Federal Credit Union, Mang Insurance and many other local businesses.
A special feature of this year’s Fur Ball will be “Paws to Read: Sponsor a Book”. Attendees will be given the opportunity to sponsor one or more of the many childrens’ books about animals donated for the purpose for $10 each. Proceeds from “Paws to Read” will support the animals at the CCSPCA. A bookplate with your name will be affixed to each book you sponsor and the books will then be distributed to Head Start centers throughout Chenango County and sent home with children to encourage reading at home.
Book selections include copies of The Great Bee Race by D. Michael Price, well-known local author and illustrator, and published by Stark Raving Graphics of Bainbridge. Also available will be Don’t Eat Your Broccoli! by Lynn Morris, illustrated by Joe Mettler and published by Log Cabin Books of Hamilton. First Editions Bookstore of Norwich has donated the See How They Grow series of five books, published by DK, and a variety of titles were provided by Kane/Miller Book Publishers and the ASPCA.
Head Start has seven locations in Chenango County: Bainbridge,Greene, Guilford, New Berlin, North Norwich, Oxford, and Sherburne and all locations will receive books from this event. Managed by Opportunities for Chenango in Norwich, Head Start provides developmental programming for eligible children and their families, including education, nutrition, health and medical services, parent education and involvement, and special services for children with disabilities
