Arbor Day Poster Exhibit at 6 On The Square

An Arbor Day Exhibit will be taking place at 6 On The Square, the community music and arts center located at 6 LaFayette Park, Oxford. On Saturday, April 26th, while Oxford’s Arbor Day celebration is taking place, Arbor Day poster entries by students of Art Instructor, Tiia Aarismaa of Oxford Academy’s 5th grade will be on exhibit in the new venue, from 9 to 10 AM.

“Trees are Terrific…Inside and Out” was the theme of the 2008 Arbor Day poster competition. Seventeen students entered the contest following the guidelines for the National Arbor Day poster contest sponsored by Toyota. On exhibit will be posters by: -Angelina Audette, Alesha Brown, Dylan Cuda, Kevin Davis, Andriana Destephano, Emma-Leah Hess, Sierra Holte, Kordell Huntley, Vada Mack, Carly Marrone, Shai’nai Marte, Nicholas Neer, Elaina Sasso, Bryan Simpson, Nathaniel Tucker, Zackary Weyrauch and Devon White.
The Oxford Village Tree Board, who sponsored the contest on the local level, made the winning announcements on January 14th. The winners are, in third place: -Shai’nai Marte; in second place: -Emma-Leah Hess; and in first place: -Sierra Holte. These winners will be receiving prizes by the Oxford Village Tree Board at the Arbor Day celebration which begins at 9 AM, at the LaFayette Park bandstand.
Sierra Holte’s award winning original poster will not be available in time for this exhibit as it is still at the NYS DEC Division of Lands and Forests in Albany. A printed reproduction of Sierra’s poster has been generously provided by La Tourette Rapid Reproductions, LLC, of Oxford.
The Oxford Historical Society will also have a small exhibit of old photos depicting trees as seen in the Village in the early 1900’s.
6 On The Square is a volunteer-based community service organization committed to promoting music and the arts in central New York by offering cultural and educational programs. In addition to this poster exhibit, 6 On The Square is currently featuring the watercolor and acrylic paintings of Oxford artist, Francis Wilcox.
