Jennie McAvoy Benefit Concert at 6OTS

Saturday, June 21st, at 7:30 PM, 6 On The Square (6OTS) welcomes Jennie McAvoy for a performance to benefit Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO), which sponsors scholarships for young women. McAvoy is a classically trained mezzo-soprano who sings familiar ballads, haunting Celtic tunes and a wide range of folk music.

Jennie McAvoy was raised in the Hudson River Valley and now makes Deerfield, Massachusetts, her home. Sponsored by Blueox Corporation as a benefit show for PEO, McAvoy has an angelic voice, weaving magic into the traditional ballads she sings. Jennie’s repertoire is accompanied by her rock-solid, deftly fingerpicked acoustic guitar (think Joan Baez or Elizabeth Cotton), on either her vintage Martin or her handmade Nickerson.

Two-time Valley Advocate Reader’s Poll Winner (for Best Female Vocalist) Janet Ryan says, "Jennie McAvoy’s voice has an ethereal quality that makes you feel as if she herself lived through the joy and sadness in the musical tales she weaves."

The members of PEO will be providing delectable desserts that evening and a portion of Jennie’s CD sales will also benefit PEO.
PEO, one of the pioneer societies for women, was founded in 1869 in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. They are a philanthropic organization where women are advanced through scholarships, grants, awards and loans. PEO motivates women to achieve their highest aspirations.

Purchase tickets on-line at the discounted price of $12, until the day of the show; $15 on the day of the show. Doors open at 6:30 PM and all ages are welcome. Visit the website at www.6onthesquare.org (http://www.6onthesquare.org/) for tickets and future event information.

The next Open Mic Night is June 19th at 7:30 PM, with emcees Gary Parker, Keith Carpenter, and Ron Britton. Many singers, poetry readers and musicians will be there this Thursday including Jess Prewitt and Ryan Brown! Come to perform or come to listen; it’s always free admission!

On June 24th it’s the Drumming Circle (-the last Tues. of the month), also free. Bring your drum if you have one, or just join in and try out some of the other percussion instruments!
Also, don't miss 6OTS’s First Anniversary Celebration, Friday, June 27th, showcasing 3 local performers: Gary Parker, Keith Carpenter, and Ron Britton; Jacqui Raynes; and Todd Evans.

In addition to these performances, 6 On The Square is currently featuring an art exhibit of paintings by Oxford artist, Francis K. Wilcox.

6OTS is located at 6 LaFayette Park in downtown Oxford. Phone: (607) 843-OTS6 (6876).
