Chenango Community Players Staging, “Christmas Belles”, Friday and Saturday
NORWICH – The Chenango Community Players (CCP) are currently in production for the new comedy, Christmas Belles. Debuting in 2006, ‘Belles’ was authored, in a true Southern flavor, by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope, and Jamie Wooten. Under the direction of Richard Heim, with Assistant director Mike McCollough, it will be performed December 5th & 6th, at the Chenango County Council of the Arts’ Martin W. Kappel Theatre in Norwich. This side-splitting, cataclysmic comedy, is a must see…especially with the holidays upon us!
The basic plot of Christmas Belles, involves three squabbling sisters (the Southern belles) in Fayro, TX, who are trying to reign in the mayhem from a church Christmas pageant (to be aired on live cable TV), that has spun wildly out of control. Amidst the chaotic goings-on, a family secret emerges that just might derail the entire production.
The Chenango Community Players, located in Norwich, are a non-profit, community-based theater group with volunteers from Oxford, Norwich and the area. For over 30 years they’ve committed to bringing high-quality performing arts to Chenango County. Some CCP past productions include: Annie, Oliver, and The Sound of Music. Most recently they staged Harvey, directed by Fred Dankart, and Noises Off, directed by Richard Heim and Cathy Robinson. Reprising his adept hand at directing slap-stick comedy is Rich Heim.
In the CCP production of Christmas Belles, the three feuding sisters are Frankie, Twink and Honey Raye Futrelle. Frankie Futrelle Dubberley (played by Dawn Wenzel), is ENORMOUSLY pregnant with her second set of twins. She’s overdue, miserable and has a waddle that hurts to watch. Twink (played by Cathy Heim), recently jilted and bitter, is in jail for inadvertently burning down half the town. And the sexy, hot-flash-suffering Honey Raye (played by Laura Phillipson) is desperately trying to keep the Christmas Program from spiraling into chaos. In addition to the sisters, is Frankie's long-suffering husband, Dub (played by director Heim), who’s playing (a surly) Santa Claus. Dub’s trying to pass a kidney stone; there’s a reluctant Elvis impersonator at the manger (played by Mike Waters); the florist, Miss Geneva (played by Cathy Robinson) is a ruthless ousted director; and the entire cast is dropping like flies due to food poisoning from the Band Boosters' Pancake Supper.
In addition are: Stephanie Joyce playing Gina Jo “GJ” Dubberly, Marty Percy-Meade playing Rhonda Lynn Lampley, Tyler Cooper playing Justin Waverly, Eric Robertson playing Raynerd Chisum, Rachel Walters playing Patsy Price, and as the children - Allison Beckwith and Makenna Karn . Light and sound is by Malcolm Trippi.
Their hilarious holiday journey through a misadventure-filled Christmas Eve is guaranteed to bring joy to your world! Three performances will be held: Friday at 7:30 PM and Saturday at 2:30 and 7:30 PM. Tickets are $10 and are available at Bartle’s and Service Pharmacies, First Edition Bookstore and at the door.
