Cat "Lucky" Needs a Home

Lucky is currently living at the CCSPCA (http://www.chenangospca.org/index.asp). He is a 3 year-old male (mostly) Persian cat. He has long black, white and brown, beautiful, silky-soft fur. He's big...very big. He weighs 13.25 pounds but he has "big bones", I believe, as compared with other cats in that pound-range. His feet and legs are thick and large. His head is big too. He has an actual mane of long hair that juts exotically out at his cheeks (like a wild bobcat) and he has a sort-of long chin. To me, his big chin looked something like a macho comic book hero like Dudley Do-Right. He is gentle though (and declawed).

We adoped Lucky and kept him for a trial period of about 10 days (minus a couple of days at the vet's). We had him neutered (before bringing him home) and he had all of his shots. He got a good bill of health (we just got a "good bill"). His good health was very important before introducing him to our 3 pets - 2 dogs and 1 female cat.

He did not want anything to do with our dogs (one male/one female). He only hissed when he got within 2 or 3 feet of them, but he never tried to attack them. They made him very nervous and he seemed to indicate so by urinating in odd places (other than his litter box). This caused me much anger and extra cleaning, but I dealt with it as it was getting less and less as each day passed.

I think the worst part was that our (female) cat became a sport for him as he stalked and attacked her at every chance. If Lucky wasn't chasing her, or staked out waiting for her, he was meowing (during the night) to get to her. Bottom line...he was disrupting our "happy home".

We were told that his behavior was possibly still changing as his male hormones hadn't left his system yet. Chasing our female, even though she was spayed, was in his blood. The vet people suggested he would get calmer (...or - maybe he would never change - we wondered). We don't know and will never know. We had many nights of poor sleep.
After much soul searching, we decided we had to bring him back to the CCSPCA. It broke our hearts bringing him back, but we figured he needed a happy home. One where there aren't other animals and he can be 'king of his castle.' We didn't want to prolong this decision as more attachment just made it harder.

Taking him back to the CCSPCA was very difficult emotionally. Add to our guilt and sorrow, the Shelter people said that if he can't get along with other animals and he won't use his litter box, they will euthenize him! (He's not sickly in any way - he's really healthy. He never tried to hurt us. He only gave us trouble with our pets. I don't know how much time he will be given at the Shelter. Now I am worried.) If we had more time to give him and less pressures (like needing sleep), I think we could have worked it out.

We really, really want Lucky to find a happy home - one that's good for him. He's a cool cat and likes to "head bump" your hand or what ever gets close to that big head of his. If you have a home with no pets, please consider adopting Lucky. He will make someone a wonderful pet. We just couldn't give him the time he needed to adjust.
I'm really worried about his future.
