6 On The Square Hosting
Oxford Academy’s First Annual Art and Literary Show
OXFORD - New this year, the three art teachers in the Oxford Academy School are having the first annual juried Art and Literary show in a venue outside of the school proper, at 6 on the Square (6OTS). 6OTS is honored to be hosting an opening reception for the art show titled, "The Chenango Valley, Where the Past is Always Present", on Thursday, June 10th, from 6:30 to 8:30 PM. All are invited.
It was Oxford High School art instructor Joni Eaton’s first choice to have the show at 6OTS as it is in the community and already a music and art venue. The 6OTS Board was very receptive to the idea and welcomed the student art show, inviting them to make it an annual event.
Eaton and the other two art teachers, Nicole Hanahan of the Primary School and Charity Gipp of the Middle School, decided the show, featuring art from all grades, should have a theme. Joni said, “For our first show we decided to have the theme revolve around our beautiful area. The title is ‘The Chenango Valley, Where the Past is Always Present’.”
Nicole chose to focus on the businesses of the Oxford area, while Charity chose to focus on the rural life. Joni chose the Chenango River, the natural beauty of the valley, and the Native Americans.
Eaton said, “Each of us have had students creating artworks along these lines for the show. It will be juried, in that the best work will be on display.”
The art teachers invited the English teachers in each of their schools to submit any poetry or other writing that had to do with the Chenango Valley area to compliment the art.
The opening of the show, with reception, is June 10th from 6:30 to 8:30 PM. Come visit with the school children whose artwork is on display, enjoy light refreshments, and learn who the winners are! :cool2:
The show will be up until June 17th and will be open to the public when 6OTS is open. (Doors are open one hour before and during performances.) 6OTS is located at 6 LaFayette Park in the heart of downtown Oxford.
