Habitat's Staines Concert &
Skillet Toss - Both Strong Successes!
NORWICH – Chenango County Habitat for Humanity (CCHH) had a great weekend of successful fundraisers. Both the Bill Staines concert at 6 On The Square Friday night, and the first annual Women’s Skillet Toss at Dairy Day on Saturday, had strong turn outs showing lots of support for this non-profit volunteer organization. The Skillet Toss had well deserving winners who received prizes, and CCHH would like to thank all who were involved.
Habitat would like to thank everyone who came on Friday to the Bill Staines concert at 6 On The Square. With 70 in attendance, it was a very successful fund raiser and a terrific performance. A big thank you to Pires of Norwich for donating two flower baskets for the raffles and to Bill Staines for donating his CD. Aside from the ticket sales, the raffles raised an additional $86.
Dairy Day, June 19th, at the Chenengo County Fairgrounds, was host to the CCHH’s first annual Women’s Skillet Toss. Yes, they were host to the Skillet Toss last year too, but this was the first time it was for women only. The weather was a perfect sunny 80 degrees, and the feedback to the game was positive with 19 strong competitors. The winners for the longest distance thrown were, in the 18 to 29 year category, Jana Miller, from Sherburne, who threw 30’ 4”. In the 30-45 age group, Megan Corey from Greene, won with an amazing 42’ 10”. In the 46-65 group, Beth Garry from South New Berlin threw 34’ 3”. In the 65+ group, Bobbi Lawton from Oxford won with 25’.
Miller, Corey, Garry and Lawton all received prize gift certificates. CCHH would like to thank the certificate providers: Dusty’s Dairy Bar & Grill, Roma’s Pizzeria and Restaurant, Hoppie’s and Mr. Chubbs.
A special CCHH thank you to the dedicated top Skillet Toss pledge collectors. They were Sharon Benjamin from Oxford who raised $120, Norma L. Kinney from Norwich who raised $77, and Marge Davis from Georgetown who raised $65.
Some of the other people who gave their time to make this event such a success were Tom Russell, Robbie Cox, Harold Johnson, Christine and Max Oliver, Bonnie Graves, Noreen Monahan, and Audrey Johnson. Thank you to Bob Smith for capturing such great action photos and a special thank you to Jim Baldwin who provided the sound system and was an extraordinary emcee! With everyone’s help, the Skillet Toss raised over $500.
It has been rumored that this event may reoccur at the Chenango County Fair. Watch for details.
