OXFORD - In conjunction with America Recycles Day, November 15th, and the 7th annual Recycled Holiday Ornament contest in the Oxford Academy Primary School, the honorable Village of Oxford Mayor calls upon the people of the Village of Oxford and its environs to observe November with appropriate programs and activities. Mayor Stark has made a proclamation: Village of Oxford Proclaims November 2010
“Oxford Recycles Month”
WHEREAS, we recognize the importance of recycling and using products made with recycled materials. And
WHEREAS, community citizens recycle many items, including motor oil, tires, aluminum cans plastic, glass, batteries, and building materials. And
WHEREAS these community efforts are designed to make a difference in our environment and help improve our quality of life. And
WHEREAS, the Federal Government is working to expand opportunities for recycling across our country by enacting into law the Energy Policy Act of 2005, which will increase the use of recycled materials. And
WHEREAS, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) operates the Resource Conservation Challenge, a national effort to encourage manufacturers, businesses, and consumers to raise the national recycling rate to 35 percent. And
WHEREAS, to help achieve this goal, a campaign was implemented in cooperation with American businesses to help increase awareness about the importance of reusing and safely recycling many items and provide the public with additional opportunities to recycle throughout the year. And
WHEREAS individuals, businesses, and government entities are encouraged to participate in recycling programs in their communities that contribute to a culture of responsible citizenship and good stewardship of our natural heritage, and which will help ensure a cleaner, safer, and healthier environment for our children and grandchildren.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Terry M. Stark, Mayor, Village of Oxford, New York by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Village of Oxford and the Village Laws of the State of New York do hereby proclaim November 2010, as Oxford Recycles Month. I call upon the people of the Village of Oxford and its environs to observe this month with appropriate programs and activities.
